The purpose of this research was to find out how the make-a-match method improves the students ability in mastering writing procedural text and also to investigate the class atmosphere when the make-a-match method was used in teaching writing procedural text. The approach used in this research was a qualitative approach and the design was collaborative classroom action research. This research was conducted at MAS Ulumuddin Lhokseumawe. The subjects of the research were the second-grade students which consist of 25 students. There were two cycles in this research. Each cycle was conducted in three meetings. The result of the research showed that the students score increased from the cycle I to cycle II. The pre-test of the cycle I score was 57.02. It meant that they did not meet the success indicators. After the treatment was given, the post-test of the cycle I score was 65.72. It meant there were improvements from the first test but it still did not meet the criteria of success and should continue to the cycle II. Then the post-test of the cycle II score was 76.02.  It suggests that there were some improvements from the second test and the students met the success indicators. Besides, make-a-match method could make the class atmosphere becoming more active especially when they matching the card to find its answer. Besides, make-a-match method gave enthusiastic situation and students became more active in discussing the meaning of the sentence contained in the cards.
